Guidance for Academic Achievement (GFAA) is a quality tutoring and mentoring service that has inspired hundreds of students to improve their reading, writing, and study skills in order to excel in school and on standardized tests.

A former public school English teacher and for over thirty years a tutor for the company GFAA she founded, Nan Andrews has developed a unique approach that empowers students to excel. She appeals to local, national, and international students.

Nan received with honors her BA from UC Berkeley and MS from California State University Hayward. She holds two California credentials: Life General Secondary and Reading and Language Arts (preschool-adult).

Her professional affiliations include the International Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. Among her publications is the acclaimed vocabulary building system “Verbal Power Rootword Flashcards.”

A long time interest of Nan’s is home promotion of reading and writing skills, the subject of her master’s thesis that measured the effects of her program on students in Orinda, Moraga, and Piedmont, California.

Nan lives with her husband in the San Francisco East Bay, California and has three sons who graduated from Miramonte High School, Stanford University, Yale University, and UC Berkeley.
